Order of Merit
The Order of Merit is used by EFSA (Scotland) to select our International teams. At present only boat events are included.
Each year events are selected covering venues throughout Scotland, and the European Boat Championships, as qualifying competitions for the order of merit. Members can fish as many of the events as they wish but only their best five results count towards the Order of Merit. Points are awarded based on the size of the entry by dividing the number of entrants by two (to a maximum of 100 entrants) and awarding points in descending order.
For instance where a competition has 40 anglers fishing the member finishing in first place would receive 20, 2nd placed angler would earn 19 points etc down to 1 point for finishing in 20th place. Each member entering the competition also receives 5 points for supporting the competition.
At the end of the season the angler’s best five scores are added up and the annual winner receives a trophy. The teams are selected on the aggregate scores from the previous three years ie the teams for 2010 will be picked from the total scores from 2007, 2008 and 2009.
Where a European Championship or Festival team event is taking place at a qualifying venue competing members will receive double points for that event. The full listing of the current Order of Merit for 2009 is available for download in Acrobat format here and the full listing for 2007/09 here.
The top anglers will receive invites to fish for the International teams early in the new year.
